Photos from a recent visit to Bombay Beach, on the northeast side of the Salton Sea, with the members of the SoCal Photography Group. The light was quite erratic, overcast in the morning, sunny and intermittently cloudy in the afternoon. Some of the shooters brought battery-powered strobes, but my Nikon flashes weren’t powerful enough, so I had my best results with a 48″x72″ half-gold reflector from Calumet.

The theme for last Sunday was to wear white — and Rozz wore white in style. Here she is in one of the wings of the Hotel del Coronado.

Here’s one take from a recent session with Mary Bowers at UC San Diego. I had a katana; she wanted to look somewhat like a ninja, and I figured UCSD was probably one of the safer places to have a woman running around with a sword.

This shot, with one flash up front and a second in back to provide some edge lighting, was at the base of the Niki de Saint Phalle Sun God sculpture.
