Mary Bowers with katana.
Here’s one take from a recent session with Mary Bowers at UC San Diego. I had a katana; she wanted to look somewhat like a ninja, and I figured UCSD was probably one of the safer places to have a woman running around with a sword.
This shot, with one flash up front and a second in back to provide some edge lighting, was at the base of the Niki de Saint Phalle Sun God sculpture.

At UC San Diego, Student Services brings out the therapy dogs to soothe stressed-out students during finals week in Fall 2009. This was the first video I shot with my Nikon D300S DSLR, which explains some of the shortfalls in audio and focusing.
